Update multiple products at once with AI
Working with individual products is great for quick edits, but when you need to update dozens or hundreds of products, Emfas lets you create proposals for multiple products and attributes at once.
Before you start
This guide builds on Browse your catalog and Generating with AI. If you haven't read those yet, check them out first to understand the basics.
Selecting products
Start from the catalog view and find the products you want to update. You can use filters to narrow down your selection - for example, finding all products with empty descriptions or products in a specific category.
For this example, let's filter by Status is Draft. This gives us 3 products to work with.
Once you've filtered your catalog, select the products you want to update by clicking the checkboxes next to each product, or use Select all to choose everything in your filtered view.
Selecting multiple products quickly
Hold Shift and click on product rows to select multiple products at once.
Creating a proposal with multiple attributes
Once you've selected your products, a hovering dialog appears at the bottom of the screen showing what you've selected.
Assets are included too
Notice it shows 4 assets - these are automatically included because they exist on the selected products. You can apply changes to assets as well, but for this guide we'll focus on product attributes.
Click the Create proposal button. The dialog shows all available attributes you can generate for these products.
You can select multiple attributes at once - for example, Description, Meta Description, and Tags. Choose your language (like English), give your proposal a name, then click Create proposal.
Naming your proposal
When creating a proposal for multiple products, you'll need to provide a name. This helps you keep track of your proposals and makes it easier to find them later.
The dialog also has a Where attribute values are option that defaults to Empty. This controls which products get content generated:
| Option | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Empty (default) | Only generates for products where the attribute is currently empty | Filling in missing content without overwriting existing values |
| Not empty | Only generates for products where the attribute already has a value | Updating or improving existing content |
| Both | Generates for all products, regardless of whether the attribute is empty | Regenerating content across all products |
Reviewing the proposal
Once you create the proposal, Emfas takes you to the proposal view. This works similarly to single product proposals, but now you'll see all your selected products listed on the left, and the generated attributes for each product on the right.
Different number of suggestions per product
Each product can have a different number of suggestions because we filtered for Empty attributes only - some products already have values for certain attributes.
AI generates content for each attribute on each product. You can click through the products on the left to review what was generated. The generation settings you configured apply to all products in the proposal.
Just like with single products, you can:
- Edit generated content manually by clicking on it
- Adjust generation settings and regenerate
- Use the AI Reasoning column to understand the generation
For details on these workflows, check out the Generating with AI guide.
Publishing and reverting
Just like with single products, you can publish individual attributes, but it usually makes more sense to use Publish all in the top right corner to publish everything for that product.
Auto publish
For larger proposals, you can enable Auto publish by clicking the airplane icon in the left sidebar. This does two things:
- Publishes any suggestions that are currently available
- Automatically publishes new suggestions as they become available
This is particularly useful for proposals with hundreds or thousands of products - enable auto publish and come back later to find everything published.
Start small
While it's powerful to create proposals with hundreds or thousands of products, we recommend starting with a few products first. This lets you verify the generation works as expected before scaling up.
Reverting the entire proposal
You can also revert an entire proposal using the revert icon in the left sidebar. This reverts each published suggestion so you can rework them again. Note that for large proposals, this doesn't happen instantaneously - you can come back later to see everything reverted.
